"News Day in B.C. is a unique opportunity open to students from grade 10-12 in Metro Vancouver to learn from award-winning producers, journalists and columnists as one of 30 final student reporters. Getting one of these coveted positions takes a couple of steps: The first step is to attend a workshop on February 2nd and 3rd. Register for it here and be sure to bring your completed waivers. During a one-hour workshop, you will hear from CBC, The Vancouver Sun reporters and Sylvan instructors on what it takes to be a reporter. You will also get tips on how best to present your story pitch during the second step: The Auditions After attending the one-hour workshop, sign up for the audition time. Auditions will be held February 9th and 10th at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre. Students will have the opportunity to pitch their story for News Day on camera from the CBC News desk. Then we move to the nail-biting phase for the students where they wait to hear if they are one of the final 30 student reporters. The final 30 will be announced February 15th and each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward post-secondary education from Sylvan Learning. The final 30 will then take the next few weeks working with their News Day mentors on the stories they pitched. They will research, conduct interviews and put their stories to life on camera, online or in print. The students’ hard work will peak on the big day at CBC for News Day in B.C. on March 27th. Student reporters and their families will attend the live broadcast and gala celebration with their mentors." Website here. Workshop this Saturday from 9:30 to 4. Cost is $19.50.
