Do you have any free time in November? 3 more contests put up. I think that makes FOUR contests running due halfway through the month! This stop-motion using coins looks so good, and so labourious that it can't possibly be real, right? Well, they show at the end how they did it - they have a computer pixelate their videos, (pixels are tiny squares on a grid), and then project the blown up image frame-by-frame from the ceiling down onto the carpet. They move the coins as needed. They also have another amazing and labour-intensive lego-based video here. They have made it worth their time by 1) Making it so amazing people will want to see it / pass it around, and 2) Selling high quality versions on itunes for 99c I've added a new page for Contests. These are optional, and usually involve the chance of monetary prizes. Click on the toolbar to see the first one.
Check out this original Mario Brothers Video Game theme for the design of this couples wedding invitation and table wedding favours for all the guests. Incredible attention to detail, he mentions this was done in photoshop. As someone raised on this game, it looks awesome. What would your equivalent theme be? What was the first game or movie that you remember fondly from your childhood? And on a related note, out of all their songs this a capella group probably enjoyed rehearsing these old school video game themes the most, as they got to act out the classic games including Mario, Tetris, Mortal Combat, and Legend of Zelda. Not just a shocking idea for a stop motion video, but has a message too. Shows how great you can make a video when you plan it out (write a draft/screenplay) before you start shooting!
Advertising is an obvious media arts career. $4 billion was spent last year on food commercials. How to get that cheese hot and bubbly for the camera, rearranging meat sauce with tweezers, launching orange slices in slo-mo through the air. (Valerie presented an example for her video presentation last week.) Here's a quote from the article: “To do that with something as banal as food is the challenge. I mean, it’s easy to go out and shoot a beautiful sunset or a beautiful girl. They’re beautiful, O.K.?” He gestures toward the middle of the studio. “I’ve got a noodle over here.” Steve Jobs, CEO and co-founder of Apple (and Pixar) died yesterday from cancer. He's the guy responsible for Toy Story, ipods, iphones, itunes, imacs, ipads. It's crazy to think that only 10 years ago, there were none of these "i" products. Apple used to be a laughable company, almost bankrupt and nothing compared to the might of Microsoft, before Steve came back and turned things around. Steve Jobs, more than anyone else, has had an incredible influence on our culture and the risen importance (for good or bad) we as a culture place on consuming and creating media arts. He also stressed that products (think macbooks and iphones) should be beautiful pieces of design in themselves (which is probably why I hear that it's digital artists who are the group with the strongest preference for macs over pcs). This is made from pieces of an apple computer, designed to form a portrait of Steve Jobs. (click it to enlarge) |
This front page is for miscellaneous Media Arts things I find interesting but don't relate specifically to course work. Select the top tabs for assignments, etc.
