The Capture Photography Festival is a month long celebration of photography and lens-based art every April in Vancouver, Canada." They've just put some of the artist's work up for sale, it's a neat chance to see what kind of photos are done by professional artists. It's a real variety. Link here though they only show part of the whole photo.
Only 3 colours, but it's not Red, Yellow, Blue. It's Cyan, Magenta, Yellow (and Black). Original source video on instagram here. If you'd like to learn how to layout a page with photos and text better, or want to make your poster professional looking, here's a good intro with "6 Professional Layout Design Tips" that gives you a good grounding in the basics of good design.
Story here. Remember when we used the design process for brainstorming our t-shirts and buttons? Here's another one at work. What is needed? Who's this for? etc. Don't care that you're only a 14 year old from BC. It doesn't have to turn out to be a hit around the globe. Although, your facebook tool for keeping track of homework just might.
The City of Vancouver hired a graphic design firm to update their logo for $8000. The city's legion of graphic designers were so appalled, they wrote an open letter to the city about how terrible it was. The best part of it was that they pointed out AMAZING city logos that exist around the world, and I was blown away by how good a city logo can be. (seriously, scroll to the bottom of the open letter and read about some of the city logos! Great thoughtful design!) The top one is the new logo. Here's an article. There's also a link to how similar it is to Chilliwack's.
"Tomorrow's Master of Digital Media" is a 2 week summer camp for students entering grades 9-12, looking to enter the video game or digital media industry. There is an information session on April 27 6-8pm, register online and learn more about the program here. TED is a collection of probably the best short presentations on new ideas on the internet. This one will encourage you to go ahead and try and copy photos and films and yearbooks that you see. Learn how they're done, be inspired by them, and keep the best techniques and mash them up for yourself :) |
This front page is for miscellaneous Media Arts things I find interesting but don't relate specifically to course work. Select the top tabs for assignments, etc.
