You have 48 hours to plan, shoot, edit, and submit a movie in this high school event. At the starting time you are given a prop and theme you have to use. Form your own team.
This event, organized by Mulgrave school in Vancouver, has a lot of Vancouver film school sponsors, there's lots of opportunities for about $100,000 in scholarships.

Youth Lens Film Festival
Delta Heritage Week 3 minute video contest
This is a new contest. Details are here. Films should relate to the theme somehow. Chosen films will be publicly screened as part of Heritage Week in February.

TV/Video: BC Regional Skills Competition
Regional Competition for our region (Lower Fraser Valley) we will do at our school in early March. You are given a theme and have only 5 hours to plan, shoot, edit, and submit your movie.
For the Provincial Competition level, you will travel to the TradeEx in Abbotsford in early April. Many different trades/skills competitions will be going on at the same time in the same place. For example, along with Photography, there will be Electronics, Auto Repair, Baking, Fashion, Computer Animation, etc.
You are given a series of challenges that you must finish before the day is over. You can see what they are, and more information, here. You can be awarded a Gold, Silver, or Bronze level of achievement.
Deadline: Need to register a couple weeks before, so before mid-February for the Regional.

BC Student Film Festival
This big video contest with lots of categories happens every year, with a festival later in April/May. More details and past winners can be found here.

WorkSafeBC Student Safety Video Contest
The goal of this contest is to benefit students in their first jobs by increasing their awareness of their workplace rights. Each year there will be a particular theme you have to make a video on (it relates to young people and workplace safety).
There are big prizes: $1000 for the winners ($1500 to the school). Two winning teams in Gr. 8-10, two in Gr. 11-12. Honourable mentions get $500. This year there's a bonus prize "The Actsafe Aspiring Filmmaker Award" to the best film team judged from a technical and creative perspective. This includes lunch with a prominent filmmaker, behind the scenes tour of a local production, a workshop, and their video is shown at a Directors Guild of Canada event.

FOCUS - Climate Change video contest
The contest invites students in Grades 8-12 (individually or in teams of up to 5 members) to make a short video (maximum 5 minutes) about climate change. Full details are available here. Past winners here.
Prizes: 1 grand prize of $5,000 + $2,500 for the school, and 3 additional prizes for best creativity, best technical realization and best science communication each valued at $2,500 + $2,000 for the school. In addition, the overall prize package includes a trip to Vancouver for a public screening of the winning films.

Reel to Real - Contest and Youth Film Festival
This organization is very youth friendly. Info about submitting films is here. They put youth shorts together, and then play them in film festivals around the world. Including Vancouver (VIFF) in October every year.
