They're posted at www.youtube.com/user/sandsmediaarts Phil Hansen has created really creative pieces of art, such as a painting made only with karate chops. He finds a really interesting thing, that "embracing a limitation can actually drive creativity." When you're given an assignment where "you can do anything you want" it's almost paralyzing - some students can't get past the choosing a topic phase. This is intentionally why I don't have you "just take lots of pictures", (though that's a great way to get better at photography), but I've created sometimes arbitrary restrictions that you have to be creative within. I hope you've successfully flexed your creative muscles this year and continue to do so on your own! Below is his Ted Talk (which are amazing, partly because speakers have to work in a 20 min time limitation) hmm... I've got some nice lighting and willing subjects, but I don't want a regular portrait... what can I do to be creative? Is there anything that hasn't been done before? Yes. More pics here: "Something as simple as a roll of Scotch tape can transform faces in a not-so-pretty way. In fact, the Scotch Tape series of photos shot by Wes Naman borders on horrifying. Who knew tape could turn regular peoples' faces into such grotesque abominations?" |
