After Director and camera operator, why are there hundreds of people listed in a movie's credits? Who else is in a movie crew? This video purports to explain. Maybe you'll find a job you're interested in.
Why are all Pixar movies amazingly good? Not just because of the animation, there are plenty of movies with great animation that aren't also amazing movies. It's because they tell really good stories. Here's a link to a Khan Academy video class teaching you how to become a better storyteller when you are creating your own film ideas.
Celtx, the program we use for scriptwriting, analyzed some of the scripts of the Oscar-nominated films. If you're curious, here's the link and an example below.
TED is a collection of probably the best short presentations on new ideas on the internet. This one will encourage you to go ahead and try and copy photos and films and yearbooks that you see. Learn how they're done, be inspired by them, and keep the best techniques and mash them up for yourself :) The beautiful short film recreates 35 of the most famous iconic photos. See if you recognize any of them! There were definitely some new ones to me. Interesting that they didn't just use the original photos, but they acted them out. The ad is to celebrate the 100th year of Leica (a photography company). More information, and a breakdown of all the photographs, is available here. Full article and video here DELTA, B.C. — As Godzilla rises from the ocean depths and attacks the Golden Gate Bridge, movie audiences suspend disbelief at the captivating on-screen spectacle. But strip out the immense monster that’s clawing apart cables and what’s left is a corps of actors in military fatigues and one gargantuan, inflatable green screen. The unique screen, stretching more than 200 metres for the 2013 “Godzilla” film shoot, has garnered its Vancouver-area inventors Hollywood’s highest honour — an Academy Award. Four partners — David McIntosh, Steve Smith, Mike Branham and Mike Kirilenko — have been named Oscar winners for engineering and developing the cutting-edge green screen, called the Aircover Inflatables Airwall... “We took a huge risk. We built these units without knowing if they’d ever work. We all believed it was a good idea, but we didn’t know,” said Smith, CEO of Aircover Inflatables, based in the Vancouver suburb of Delta. ... A green screen is a backdrop made entirely of one distinct colour — often green, but sometimes blue — that is mounted behind a scene during the filming of a movie. In post-production, the single hue is replaced by video footage or computer generated graphics, such as the enraged Godzilla. The airwall has quickly amassed a roll of credits since its debut. Some other major motion pictures that used the visual effects tool include “Tomorrowland,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “X-Men Apocalypse” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”... "Game of Thrones" ... I am blown away by creativity. When someone takes a photo of a part of the school I've never seen before, when they shoot a flower from an angle I've never thought of... anything I see that's original is impressive. I love it. The mind behind it - how does someone come up with something no one else has thought of yet? Creativity and freshness is highly valued in the business world as well. Design something new and people's attention is drawn to it. For example, Cirque de Soleil completely remade the tired trope of the Circus after... 100 years? This video has a performance with a fairly simple idea, but one I've never seen before. What a great idea. In the 1970s the Voyager spacecraft was sent into space. Included on board was a solid gold record, incribed with instructions on how to play it, lots of information, music, and 116 images curated to explain our world to aliens who would find it. What would you suggest be part of that set? Controversially, it also included our address if they wanted to find us (fingers crossed they're friendly!) Note: the first minute of the video is mostly science, then it gets into photographs. |
