Wow. An image of the fighting in Syria at the exact moment a tank shell hit their position. I didn't believe this at first glance, I was sure the fire was just photoshopped in - it's too perfect to get that shot. But they've posted the whole sequence here. Every year a single picture is picked for the World Press Photo of the Year (in different categories), and this has got to be a contender. See more World Press Award photos at worldpressphoto.org. The other very famous award for news photos are the Pullitzer Prizes for photography. Definitely worth googling, though heads up - some war photos can be graphic showing people injured or dead.
